She’s an Italian fashion designer born in Rome, Italy. 51 year old Maria Chiuri has made her mark in the fashion industry.

Maria Grazia Chiuri , First Female Artistic Director DIOR Fashion House #WomanCrushWednesday

With over 20 years in the fashion creation business, 17years of which she spent as co- creative director (along side Pierpaolo Piccioli) at VALENTINO, she was recently named Artistic Director at the prestigious DIOR fashion house following the exit of Raf Simons (Former Director).

Maria and Piccioli worked together for over 20years from Fendi to Valentino.

I was just going to do a review of Dior’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, then I saw some pieces that I really liked and of course I wanted to know the brain behind the designs. Google to the rescue, I found out it was the same woman who had been at VALENTINO (I made mention of her in my VALENTINO review).

It’s one thing to appreciate a work of art, the main thing is to appreciate the creator. Creating an original, timeless and classic piece is simply Genius. From research, Maria alongside Piccioli (Apparently they have worked together from FENDI up until VALENTINO, where he is now solo as Head Creative Director) created the FENDI Baguette which is a major hit and has evolved over the years.

The baguette at the Fendi Spring Summer 2016 runway has evolved over time with different creative directors, but the original concept remains.

The duo also created the very first Valentino Rockstud Shoes and Bags Collection in 1999 and played around with it making it better with each season.

I mean these are classic pieces. Every luxury fashion lover owns at least one pair of the Rockstud Pumps and every shoe lover on a budget has it on top of their wish list. To be behind the creation of such a piece, you have to be nothing but a genius.

DIOR is lucky to have her and I can’t wait to see more of what she’d be bringing in. She put on her premiere show in September 2016 for DIOR during fashion week.

I’d certainly have my eyes out for her in DIOR in the years she’d be there and i’d love to see her work independently of Piccioli and likewise him at VALENTINO.

Did I mention that she’s the first female Artistic Director at the fashion house since inception 69years ago? Did I say Genius again?

Enjoy the Autumn and Winter Shoe Collection below and I can’t wait to see future pieces. There were boots and solid shoes but I loved the more feminine side of the collection.

A beautiful, very feminine and detailed collection. I Love it. Can’t wait to see the new things she’d be bringing to the footwear collection.

Peace, Love And Dior

XOXO,
