DIY – Create Some More Room In Those Tight Shoes

DIY – Create Some More Room In Those Tight Shoes

I recently copped these Dorothy Perkins Laser Cut Pumps in a nude color and i had been super excited about wearing them. Fast forward to Church the following Sunday, i had not taken more than a few steps and they started to bite, i mean bite really hard. Half way into the service, they were off so i could wiggle my toes. Tight shoes can be a mess. A few years ago, that would have been the last time i’d wear them, but because i have been forced to give out many shoes i love, i knew i had to find a solution. Those shoes were a size 8, there’s no way i would not be able to wear them. So i put some hacks i had learned to use, which i should have done prior to that. In 5 easy ways, here’s how to get more room in those snug shoes you’re not ready to let go of. It could be they came a half size small or you’re dealing with pregnancy feet. The best thing to do most times is to wear them around the house with a thick pair of socks the day you get them. Yup, make your living room your run way and strut in those babies for more than a few minutes. Do that a few times everyday till you actually get to wear them out. But for more effective stretching methods, try any of these or a combination. STRETCH THEM IN A FREEZER: Yep you read that right, it’s just basic science. All you need to do is fill a ziploc bag... read more

#IssaThrow Back To My First Official Fashion Outing

Social media for me has been one of the best things in terms of networking and knowing a lot more about the fashion world generally. From Instagram to Pinterest, Twitter and even Facebook, the wealth of knowledge i have acquired is amazing. Being away from the fashion capital of the country would have slowed me down a lot but for the blessing of social media. I have wanted to attend the Lagos Fashion and Design Week for 4 years in a row and the distance just never made it work. But every Instagram post made me feel like i didn’t miss a thing. RELATED POST: LAGOS FASHION AND DESIGN WEEK Now that i moved to Port Harcourt, there has been more hope of having a lot more fashion related social hang outs and it didn’t take too long before the opportunity of one came by. I didn’t get to know about it until the day before when it popped up on my news feed.   Featuring the legendary artist and renowned photographer Kelechi Amadi Obi, who is also the Editor of Mania Magazine, Top wardrobe stylist Yummie Ogbebor and Ex-model cum Model Scout Bolajo Fawehinmi of FEW modelling agency, the Lagos Fashion and Design Week brought the Fashion Focus Talk to my city and i knew i wasn’t going to miss it for anything. It was my first opportunity to meet Yummie who is one stylist i fancy so much. RELATED: IN HER CLOSET WITH YUMMIE OGBEBOR Perfect timing, kids dropped off at summer school, i rushed to the venue for the 10.30 am program which didn’t start for another hour but... read more
Outside My Obsession With Shoes, These Are My Other Favorite Things!!!

Outside My Obsession With Shoes, These Are My Other Favorite Things!!!

I have been accused of being selfish on the blog because all i talk about is shoes… but that’s what happens when you’re obsessed…Lol! So today, i’d shift my focus away from shoes for a minute. If you’ve wondered what else it is that gets my attention outside shoes, then they’d be…   Dresses – I like that they are a one piece and very feminine, i have a few favorite styles for my body type and would fill my future closet with 70% dresses. Jeans Trousers – Bring them on in anyway, as long as they have a good fit, i’m in. Sunglasses – I like them really dramatic and detailed.. Bags – Classic handbags are my favorite, i would invest in classic ones but won’t necessarily go over board. In that particular order, every other thing considered a fashion accessory is not exactly so important as long as i have a decent amount of them as i need them. Anyway, today will be dedicated to BAGS. 70% of the non shoe lovers i have met are obsessed with their bags, 85% of the shoe lovers i have met have bags as their second obsession. I won’t really go out of my way to ogle bags (save for these days when i’m styling a client), but i can’t deny they are a real fashion statement. For the purpose of this post, i have come up with a collection of bags from luxury brands that will legit make my wish list (Here’s hoping Santa is reading this post). Luxury hand bags are an investment piece, i mean the fact that... read more

It’s Tuessay ShoesDay And Rihanna Has My Heart, Forever!!!

Rihanna: Born 20 February 1988 in Barbados Jay: Born 30 April 1988 in Lagos, Nigeria About 60 days apart, she came out earlier to work my spirit animal. Rihanna is a lot in personality what I’d most likely be under different circumstances. I love her, period!!! Back to why I’m here, everyone has been buzzing about her latest collaboration with the legend Manolo Blahnik and me I’m just here sipping tea trying to digest the whole “shoetiation”. Last year, I thought they killed it together with the launch of the Denim collection that had Jennifer Lopez rocking a pair in her music video. I saw this new collection and I’m totally taken. These pieces are in a class of their own. Nude, PVC and precious stones in 3 varying styles. This is what happens when 2 artists come together, #Issacreativeexplosion. EVERY woman would want a pair of one of these, tell me why not, call them over rated and I’d show you a hater… This post should make you think again. OMG, drool with me, but I have to go now. Peace, Love and Work (Get it? Work work work work work) Xoxo... read more
ShoesDay Tuesday – Shoe Thrift Shopping In The Heart Of Lagos.

ShoesDay Tuesday – Shoe Thrift Shopping In The Heart Of Lagos.

Addicted to my Instagram timeline as always, I came across some posts from my friend and ex school mate, Nimide. Remember when she was shoespiration?. Nimide has an amazing taste for shoes, at least my kind of amazing. She could easily shop shoes for me and I’d have not a single complaint. We met up in Lagos during my last visit and talked about shoes (Of Course). Then she told me about a place I had heard of in the past called VESPA. It’s a thrift market for shoes. And this right here is why I love Nimide. Not everyone earns in 7 figures and not everyone can afford to spend 70% of their pay on shoes just to keep up. Being the queen of “stay in your lane” and “face your reality”, I was more than curious to find out more from her about the market and how it works. The plan was to go there together but distance would not let me be great. I thought it’d be really unfair to hoard this great find from you guys. With all these buys by Nimide, I don’t even need to go there to know it’s the place to be. So if you are a shoe lover or have a shoe fetish but can’t afford all the luxury brands or deal with the exchange rate and don’t have the opportunity to go abroad to shop first hand, this post is for you. You would rock your Vespa shoes and no one will ever be able to tell where and how you got them except you tell. After stalking Nims... read more

Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Season 2, Episode 4- Moving On

Read Episode 3 Here Life really does go on, it’s been a few months since our vacation to Brazil and we are all moving on like nothing happened. Ivie was back in her home, almost due to have her baby. We had a surprise baby shower for her last weekend and it was really beautiful. We went all out for  her with a tiffany blue theme, lots of glam, beautiful gifts and a generally lovely time with friends and family in Aisha’s house. She deserved all the love. Eddy was doing all he could to make things better with her – shopping sprees, lunch dates and date nights and very recently, a brand new Mercedez Benz G-Wagon.   “I’m happy to see that things are going on well with you and Eddy, giirrrrllll that G-baby is the real baby” I said, having a light cocktail with Ivie on the night of the baby shower.     She smiled “It’s nice to have all these things Salewa, I love the life of luxury. But you see, ‘things’ don’t cover the matters of the heart. You know, I still struggle with forgiving Eddy fully. I mean there are days I can’t stand the sight of him, days I don’t believe one word he says, days I just want to be lost in his arms cos I love him so much. It has only been the grace of God and now I’m learning to take it one day at a time and pray for God to restore things or at least take the bitterness and anger away completely” She said as she... read more
Diary Of A Shoe Lover Season 2, Episode 2 – When Life Happens!!!

Diary Of A Shoe Lover Season 2, Episode 2 – When Life Happens!!!

Read Episode 1 Here “Hey beautiful” I rolled over and opened my eyes to see Hakeem standing over me, I sat up and met his lips as he tried to reach for mine. “I’m going out for a run and I’m not going without you, so get up, freshen up and let’s go” He said as he bent over to tie his laces. I threw my head back on the pillow and grabbed the duvet.  “I don’t feel up to it, besides it’s 5.30 in the morning and it’s Saturday, can I at least sleep for one more hour?” I mumbled. “No lover, you can’t sleep for an hour, we need to keep you in shape, remember we had body goals early this year “ He replied as he took the duvet off me and pulled me up again. I dragged myself out of our king-sized bed and made for the bathroom. Was this Hakeem’s way of telling me I was getting fat? I knew I had added a few Kg’s but I wouldn’t get on the scale to know just how many.  My clothes were getting snug around my midsection and thighs, but because they still fit, I didn’t think anything of it. I sat on the toilet seat to take a leak and on cleaning up with the tissue paper, it came out blood red. My heart shattered into a million pieces. I was really hoping this would be it. The snug clothes, I had been consoling myself that it is because I had gotten pregnant I was putting on weight. Now, another month, and yet another... read more
Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Season 2 Episode 1 – 5 Years After

Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Season 2 Episode 1 – 5 Years After

Read Season 1, Episode 9 here “I have to go now” said Ivie, as she picked up her Gucci bag and car keys and gave me a peck on the cheek. “This Osas’ school management can just be very over sabi, like they love the children more than we the parents. If we’re more than 10 minutes late in picking them up, it’s a  problem” She said, as she waved and walked towards the door of the restaurant where we just had lunch. It had been 5 years after her wedding to Eddy and Hakeem’s proposal to me and so many things had happened. Ivie now had a 4 year old daughter and another baby on the way. Pregnancy suited her and she had stuck to her healthy habits all the way and she remained as fashionable as ever but in a more mature way. Since she got married and had Osas, she was almost always on the move. It was with a deep sense of commitment we had managed to keep our Tuesday lunch dates. Motherhood looked good on her and she was dedicated to it a 100%. Aishat and i teased her a lot about how she had sacrificed her long artificial nails and 30″ weaves for natural nails and braids. Their plans to relocate to the USA had been cancelled, and 2 years into their marriage, she had started a Travel and Tourism Company with plans to resign her paid employment with the Oil and Gas firm she worked for. It had been a tough decision to make, but she also wanted enough time to cater to her family which her paid employment... read more

‘5 Things’ with Jim Iyke – #MondayManStyleCrush

I need all the smileys i can get to express myself in this post. I’m physically and mentally drained but in a good way. Moving houses officially has to be the hardest thing ever. Even worse when it’s inter state. So i guess what i’m saying is that I’ve just moved houses from Warri, Delta State to Port Harcourt City and the past few weeks have been work work work. It is a move I’ve anticipated for some time now so it’s been happy kind of work. I’d share my excitement with you guys much later. And that explains why i have been absent. I’m most excited for Sole Divas with this move, but let’s just wait for it and while we wait, tell a friend to tell a friend that Sole Divas is in Port Harcourt and getting ready to satisfy all their footwear needs. Anyway, after 3days of unpacking and setting up, the hubs and i went to visit our friends, the owners of Sweettooth Confectioneries at their store (You have to visit anytime you’re in PHCity). While we were chatting and having a good laugh, Jim Iyke who happened to be hubby’s friend from way back walked in. After the slaps on the back and playing catch up, during which, i just stood by smiling and eyeing his Giuseppe Zanotti Python Sneakers, the Mr introduced my friend and i. Unfortunately, i didn’t have a phone or i would have taken shots from every angle possible. I don’t know if i was star struck or shy, but whatever it was, i couldn’t seem to speak and so Teju... read more

Catch Up On Sole Divas Blog – Top Posts In The Past Year

One of the hardest parts of blogging is sharing your contents. I mean there are a gazillion blogs out there with amazing posts, it’s overwhelming keeping up with all of them. But i was thinking to myself, i put up so many posts and trust me it takes a lot of time and effort to get it right. Of what use it is if no one is reading?   One of my goals in this quarter is to get more people to enjoy the amazing content on Sole Divas. And may i use this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who takes their time to read my posts, comment and even share. It means a whole lot to me. The Craziest and Weirdest Shoes Around The Web

The Craziest and Weirdest Shoes Around The Web

Long time, no post. I’m having the busiest month ever but 9 days of no blogging and it doesn’t feel right. It haunts me when i remember i haven’t been here and i have so many articles to post, *sigh*. I actually had a dream i was being chased by people asking me why i left them hanging, hahahaha. No it’s not that serious. Anyway, let me share with you guys the craziest and weirdest shoes I’ve seen around  the web. The Gadget Shoes: I would rock these in a beat. I love the stereo inspired sneakers. I don’t know if they are really wired to work, but it would be totally cool if they are. The Pokemon/Game boy wedges are a winner as well, and the metallic music player wedges speak night life. Picture a night out in this silver metallic pair with the music control lights 0n. So yea, these 3 i would wear. The Food Inspired Shoes: Those Nike Burger sneakers will make me drop my fitfam life for a minute…lol! For one, it’s really creative. Now i don’t know if they are really for wearing or just another food art, looks like food to me tho! I like how the vegetable turned out with the woven work on the wedges. And because they are green, they look really good to wear. Yes i will rock them but definitely not the burger sneakers. The Sneaker Leggings: The only thing i could think of is what happens when you have to take off your shoes… I love’em however, makes dressing up really quick… Pants and shoes at once.... read more

Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Season Finale – A Birthday and A Fairy Tale.

Episode 8 Here Dear diary,  Is this what being in love truly feels like or am I just being overly emotional?.. I can’t even put my thoughts and feelings into writing, I’d be back later… Good night!!! Less than a week to my birthday and none of my friends was back in town. And no, they wouldn’t be making it down in time… I felt so empty and lonely. Ivie had sent me an early birthday present through one of her cousins. As much as I loved my new season Gucci princeton slippers, they could not fill the void I felt knowing i would be spending my birthday alone. A sudden fear gripped me at the thought of being alone forever.. I literally panicked. “Shally too cute, abi what’s that your Whatsapp name?” My mum cut into my thoughts as she joined me on the dining table where I was having dinner. I was having wheat pasta and a side of vegetables with chicken wings. This fitfam feeding wasn’t so bad after all even though I slipped once in a while. My body was taking shape and I was loving every bit of it. “Why not just call me Salewa, Mrs Oni and leave Whatsapp name. How are you Ma?” I replied, offering her a bite from my meal. “A ni o l’eko, o ba je (You have no moral training, you’re ill mannered) she said, taking the chair right beside me. “And I love you too mummy” i said as I blew her a kiss. “Anyway, is it ok to talk? Why am I even asking, I want... read more

Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Episode 6 – The Great Intervention

Episode 5 here… Dear Diary, *Sigh*… Shame will not even let me clock in here. I have really been humbled. The other night at Ai’s house, i got an E-mail alert from my bank, turns out my account balance could not buy me a one way ticket to Abuja, and payday was still about 20 days away. I couldn’t mention it to the girls. Going through my statement, it turns out all my money had been going recklessly on shoes. To think i still had debts to pay. I have no savings, no investments, no back up and i work so hard and earn so well. My parents must not know about this, they wouldn’t let me hear the last of it. My dad would be so so disappointed. Damn, i bet you are too. Thank God for Hakeem whose advice redeemed me. I have a lot of work to do on my finances. A whole lot of work. Meanwhile, plans for Ivie’s wedding is underway, her dad wants to get it done as soon as possible. Surprisingly, they agreed on something small both for the bride price payment and the church wedding. It will be my first time in Benin and i’m looking forward to it. After seeing my account balance in black and white, i literally went into freeze mode. I had less than N25,000 in heaven and on earth plus debts that were way over that amount which i had incurred sub-consciously buying this and that and most especially footwear. I managed to keep it together for the rest of the night with the girls, and i couldn’t... read more
Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Episode 5 – The Vow And A Wedding

Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Episode 5 – The Vow And A Wedding

Dear Diary, Last night was magical and that is all. I cannot count how many times i cried. Choi, God needs to send me my own personal bae, not another person’s bae o. My own gan gan. My brother scored best lover in the world goals for all that he put together for Sis Moji. The highlight for me was when he was acknowledging all his wrongs, and how he was committed to dedicate the rest of his life to loving her right, and then Timi Dakolo came out of no where singing “The Vow”. I wish i could freeze that scene forever. From the corner of my eyes, i saw my mum shed a few tears, it was such a beautiful moment. And did my SIL look beautiful or not, her three looks from the vow renewal, the dinner, down to the after party dress were absolutely breath taking. Yesterday was all forms of magic. *SIGH* Almost a week after the anniversary, and we couldn’t stop talking about it. The girls and i were having an early dinner, the Friday after, at Aisha’s place. She had made this really lovely oil-less efo riro with grilled fish and boiled plantain. I was fast adapting to fitfam life and literally in food heaven. “I hope we don’t get blinded by your rock” I teased Ivie as she stretched her hand across the table to get some wine. Yes, another big moment from the party. Ivie’s boyfriend had proposed to her that night. Hakeem had made a joke about it earlier, when Timi was serenading us with some good music, saying he... read more
It’s Another Tuesday Shoesday With Master Piece Designer Pierre Hardy!!!

It’s Another Tuesday Shoesday With Master Piece Designer Pierre Hardy!!!

I was looking through luxury online outlet, the outnet, with another ardent shoe lover and Pierre Hardy shoes kept popping up. For each of his design that came up we’d go back and ooh and aah over the piece. Pierre Hardy is a French designer in his 60’s who went from dance to footwear design. His profile has risen from being an illustrator at Vogue to being creative director atDior,  Hermes and Balenciaga to owning his own self named label. His designs are such that you’d want to collect just because, well I would! They are rich in color and texture and remind me of a mix of geometry and architecture. I had to do a post and show you some of that footcandy. And yea, they do cost more than just a pretty penny, but trust me worth every figure. It’s only respectful to pay the worth of such creative artwork. Here are some of my favorites… And some more… An absolute hit. I would rock every pair… Peace, love and more shoes Xoxo... read more

Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Episode 4 – Tough Decision

Episode 3 Here Dear Diary, “The work load is out of this world, i barely get 5 hours of sleep now. I get home really late and come back with work. It’s really doing my head in. And as i’m getting really committed to this fitfam life, i have to wake up early to put in my 30 minutes of work out. It’s been crazy to be honest. I haven’t even been able to do much for Sister Moji as per the anniversary, i’m she understands. My outfit for that one sef, i still can’t settle for something and it’s in 3 days. I was at Sole Divas 2 days ago, hoping to get gold shoes for the fringe dress. I’d love to wear the skirt tho, but i’m not so sure i’m that comfortable with my stomach yet. It’s barely 2 weeks i signed up with April, and even though i can say i feel changes, i’m not so confident to put it out there. Anyway, back to Sole Divas, i don’t know if it’s the stress from work, but i went on a shoe binge. Gosh, all the Kurt Geiger pairs i had been eyeing were up for sale at up to 60% off , i bought 12 pairs. Sue me, i call it retail therapy. And yes it felt good. Judge me not. As i don’t have a lover to whisper sweet nonsense to me, won’t i make myself happy?. Meanwhile, Aisha sent me a message, i haven’t replied her, let me get to it, it sounded quite urgent.” I read through Aisha’s message again, it sounded quite unlike her,... read more
