Mom Crush Monday With Dakore Egbuson

Mom Crush Monday With Dakore Egbuson

Dakore Egbuson Akande is one of those actors whose character on screen engages you and keeps you in the flow of the movie till the end. Multi talented, as she also sings and has had stage performances with Tony Allen and Weird MC, she is also the first Amnesty International Ambassador. First she is Dakore, then a mum, wife, actress and set to own the world, her style which has evolved over the years but still speaks the same unique language of class and sass is exactly why i’m here. Without saying too much, i would leave the pictures to do the talking on why this screen diva makes the cut as #momcrush on this Monday.               If i don’t know a lot, one thing i do know is she has a love for gladiator sandals.   Peace, Love and More Sass Xoxo, Jay.  ... read more

#IssaThrow Back To My First Official Fashion Outing

Social media for me has been one of the best things in terms of networking and knowing a lot more about the fashion world generally. From Instagram to Pinterest, Twitter and even Facebook, the wealth of knowledge i have acquired is amazing. Being away from the fashion capital of the country would have slowed me down a lot but for the blessing of social media. I have wanted to attend the Lagos Fashion and Design Week for 4 years in a row and the distance just never made it work. But every Instagram post made me feel like i didn’t miss a thing. RELATED POST: LAGOS FASHION AND DESIGN WEEK Now that i moved to Port Harcourt, there has been more hope of having a lot more fashion related social hang outs and it didn’t take too long before the opportunity of one came by. I didn’t get to know about it until the day before when it popped up on my news feed.   Featuring the legendary artist and renowned photographer Kelechi Amadi Obi, who is also the Editor of Mania Magazine, Top wardrobe stylist Yummie Ogbebor and Ex-model cum Model Scout Bolajo Fawehinmi of FEW modelling agency, the Lagos Fashion and Design Week brought the Fashion Focus Talk to my city and i knew i wasn’t going to miss it for anything. It was my first opportunity to meet Yummie who is one stylist i fancy so much. RELATED: IN HER CLOSET WITH YUMMIE OGBEBOR Perfect timing, kids dropped off at summer school, i rushed to the venue for the 10.30 am program which didn’t start for another hour but... read more

Designer Focus – Avante Garde Footwear Designs That Are Jan Taminiau

When Beyonce dropped the 4 album back in 2011, she wore these outlandish shoes that mere mortals will only ever imagine for the album cover and campaign shoot. I stumbled upon the picture again recently and decided to find out more about the shoes. Turns out to be the creation of a dutch designer – JAN TAMINIAU. Taminiau is known for his love for traditional production techniques, antique materials, the search for the right shape and the penchant for aesthetics. His work has a refined, conceptual undertone yet never loses sight of the elegant, feminine and wearable form. I read in an article where he was quoted saying, “I create for the woman of my dreams, for her I produce my own fabrics, for her I discover new forms, techniques and research new materials. All to give women back the art of showing themselves, and thereby proving that romance, attraction, elegance and style still have an important role to play in today’s fashion.” See some more of his designs here     I can rock a few pairs here however avante garde they are. It’s no surprise Lady Gaga is big on this one. Would you invest in any of these? I think i will, just because #collections Peace, love and go gaga Xoxo Jay  ... read more
Woman Crush Wednesday – Bolanle Olukanni’s 90’s Inspired Party

Woman Crush Wednesday – Bolanle Olukanni’s 90’s Inspired Party

Bolanle Olukanni was one of my two favorite contestants for the Mo’s search competition on Ebony Life TV’s auditions for Co Hosts of the Moments With Mo program. It was the first time i heard anything about her and in four years of being on TV, becoming a compere, actress and over all a media personality, she has won my heart and that of many other people. What i love the most about her is her level of growth and the confidence she exudes. Fun loving yet reserved, full of laughter yet conservative but never afraid to tread new territories, she has made the world her own, leaving no stones unturned as it comes to her career. A Leo by birth, she had one of the most fun parties i had seen on social media in a while – #Bolanles90sjam Growing up in the 90’s myself, the decade of Aliyah, Da Brat, Foxy Brown and co, that was one party i would have loved to attend. It was a 90’s inspired themed party and the details that went into achieving it was a 100%. She’s that girl that can go from rachet looking to sexy and sultry and back to take home to mama in a switch. From a transformed body to a constantly upgraded closet , Bolanle is many shades beautiful. That party and the many times over the years that she has killed the fashion game on and off the red carpet plus her sass, wit and down to earth nature is why this stunner is my Woman Crush this Wednesday. All the cool kids came out to play, from Mimi Onalaja... read more

Momspiration Pt 3 – Gorgeous Actress Somkele Iyamah-Idhalama

I think the first time i ever saw Somkele – Idhalama was a picture of her in an Andrea Iyama swim suit and i’m like “See that body”. Fast forward to when i saw her again in the series “Gidi Up” on Ndani TV and the way she interpreted her role as Yvonne the fashion designer got me hooked on the series. Because social media would always throw stuff in your face, i started to see her pop up everywhere till i hit the follow button on her Instagram profile one day and since then I’ve become a fan. From 93 Days to The Arbitration and then The Wedding Party, every role played was interpreted perfectly. She is a force to reckon with in Nollywood now and has bagged herself quite a number of recognizable awards. I most especially like the fact that she’s not in every screen play, you can tell that she carefully selects a good movie script before jumping at it. Her feisty but loving role as best friend and Maid of Honor to the bride in Ebony Life TV’s record breaking movie, The Wedding Party got my heart. You know those friends that will fight for you to the end even when it gets down to being physical?. She nailed it!!! Best part for me and why she is worthy of this momspiration post is that she’s a mummy. OMG, i almost choked when i saw a picture of her and her son and i’m like, “a baby came out of that body, howwwww???????” Somkele got married in 2014 and had a baby and her snap back... read more
Three Generations Of Creative Genii – The Rene Caovilla Brand

Three Generations Of Creative Genii – The Rene Caovilla Brand

I remember so clearly the first pair of Rene Caovilla shoes i ever came across online. They were from Net-A-Porter, i was, as always, feeding my eyes on their new arrivals when these mules jumped at me. It screamed everything Jay’s style. They weren’t too loud and so in your face but you couldn’t help but notice them.   It didn’t take more than a second to click on the brand name and i was let into the world of Rene Caovilla – Lots of Precious stones, Court style, Sling backs, Mules, Flats and the signature silver sparkly outsoles. Of course i was sold in my heart and nothing could stop me from looking at shoe after shoe, with the next pair was something that made me want to see the next. I have not for one time been bored with any of their designs, because every pair comes with just another WOW element. Knowing the creative genius behind the brand became priority and i didn’t stop digging till i was satisfied with the all the information i got. Three generations of the Caovilla family have run the brand from 1923 till date. It all started with the visionary fore father Edoardo Caovilla who opened a workshop to handcraft luxury shoes in Venice.  In the 50s, his son René established the brand and having being born and brought up in aristocratic Venice, in the 60s,  he started to conceive, and then designed and created the iconic pieces of the line: the “Snake” sandals, which is the trademark of the label,  and the thong sandals embellished with pearls. Rene’s Son, named after his grand father, the 3rd generation of... read more

Beauty, Brains and Valentinos – It’s CNN’s Isha Sesay!!!

Except there’s a story rocking the world, like the death of Michael Jackson, you’d most likely not catch me watching CNN. In the past few years, my husband has kind of rubbed off on me and i find myself tuning in to 401 once or twice a month…Lol! One of the few people i like and would stay tuned anytime i find them on is French born Sierra Leonan Isha Sesay, Anchor and correspondent for CNN International. From her smile to her charisma and high level of intelligence, i find myself glued when she’s on air. Memorable moments with her on TV (Yea they are memorable) for me are her interviews with Actor Djimon Hounsou, Super Model Alek wek and Liberian president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. And then in 2014, how she was really into the #Bringbackourgirls campaign when the Chibok girls were kidnapped. I remember also catching a few moments of her coverage from South Africa following the death of Nelson Mandela. Oooh and when she joined Michelle Obama in Liberia and Morocco for an upcoming CNN Films, “We Will Rise: Michelle Obama’s Mission to Educated Girls Around the World.” The film, with Meryl Streep and Freida Pinto, focuses on girls overcoming incredible challenges to achieve an education. I just over all love how passionate she is about what she does. Isha is quite the conservative dresser and so is her life. Outside work, she’s a very private person and you can hardly find anything about her life flying around, but i dug, i dug into her wardrobe… lol! Didn’t find much to be honest but enough to share with you her shoe... read more
Fall 2017: The Jennifer Lopez X Giuseppe Zanotti Collaboration

Fall 2017: The Jennifer Lopez X Giuseppe Zanotti Collaboration

Hey guys, thank God it’s Friday, No? Well, a big yes from this side especially as i get to sleep in longer tomorrow. Anyway, i turned on my computer to do a post on shoe sketches, but i got a hint from shoesphere about the JLo X Zanotti collaboration and i had to quickly share. Yup, sexy actor, singer and performer Jennifer Lopez has just dropped her Fall 2017 collection with Giuseppe Zanotti. She’s been a fan and has been known to collect a lot of his designs so it’s not really a surprise that they’re at it. It’s a second collaboration as there was a Spring collection earlier in the year. Every pair of shoe started with a sketch, be it by the designer or a designing team, it goes from imagination to paper and then reality and this is no exception. This sketch below Gave life to this   There are 4 styles from the fall collection which are expected to go on retail in August. Continue below   And from the spring collection, they had these: None of the styles jump at me so much, looks to me like a repetition of what we are used to. But hey, they must be smiling to the bank as these shoes have been reported to be sold out at Luxury retail outlets Neiman Marcus and Saks5thAvenue with their price tags between $800 and $2,795 from both collections. I hope to see more va va voom in future collaborations. Which of these are your favorites? Peace, Love and More Shoes Xoxo... read more
Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Season 2, Episode 6 – Ugly Revelations And A Baby???

Diary Of A Shoe Lover – Season 2, Episode 6 – Ugly Revelations And A Baby???

Read Episode 5 Here “Finally, the third musketeer is getting married”, my oldest brother Femi said. Me and my two brothers had gone out to lunch. My immediate older brother Dayo had just come back from Canada. He had been away for almost 2years on a course. It was the first time in over 10years that it would be just the 3 of us together alone, no parents, no significant others, no friends. Just us, it felt really good. I didn’t realize how much time had taken its toll on our sibling relationship. Brother Femi, although many years older had to be the coolest brother in the whole world and despite the drama that had come with him over the years, I still loved him deeply. Dayo and I were closer as were also closer in age. He was and is the ultimate Big brother, he’s the one person that knows practically everything about me, and including the first day I had sex. That was the one person I trusted to keep my secrets. 2years away, even though we chatted almost every day and i had missed him silly. “Who did Aishat finally commit to o, that’s how that girl didn’t marry me” Dayo said, digging into his Ila Alasepo. “You this unserious human being, you guys would never have worked out” I said in reply. “You better look for wife elsewhere” Brother Femi put in. “But seriously, who’s the lucky guy?” Dayo asked “It’s one Timehin guy o, she met him when she went to Canada after she had Khameel.” I said in reply. “Oh Ok, when I... read more

It’s Tuessay ShoesDay And Rihanna Has My Heart, Forever!!!

Rihanna: Born 20 February 1988 in Barbados Jay: Born 30 April 1988 in Lagos, Nigeria About 60 days apart, she came out earlier to work my spirit animal. Rihanna is a lot in personality what I’d most likely be under different circumstances. I love her, period!!! Back to why I’m here, everyone has been buzzing about her latest collaboration with the legend Manolo Blahnik and me I’m just here sipping tea trying to digest the whole “shoetiation”. Last year, I thought they killed it together with the launch of the Denim collection that had Jennifer Lopez rocking a pair in her music video. I saw this new collection and I’m totally taken. These pieces are in a class of their own. Nude, PVC and precious stones in 3 varying styles. This is what happens when 2 artists come together, #Issacreativeexplosion. EVERY woman would want a pair of one of these, tell me why not, call them over rated and I’d show you a hater… This post should make you think again. OMG, drool with me, but I have to go now. Momspiration Pt 2: Folake Kuye Huntoon of Style Pantry

Today’s feature on #momspiration got me thinking if there’s anything about growing up in the bronx that takes your styling game up a notch. Remember Remi Fagbohun from the last feature? She was also born and raised in Brooklyn New York. How can you claim to be a fashion lover and not know Folake Huntoon? That was the exact question I asked myself about 2years ago when I first stumbled upon her instagram profile. She is my fashion muse and there’s hardly ever a day in blogosphere I’m not on her blog . Folake is 40years old, a mum of 3, a wife, a stylist and the creative director of the organic clothing line, We We clothing. Folake’s style is daring yet easy on the eyes. From wearing statement pieces to mixing colors and matching patterns, every look is a hit. What I love the most about her style would be her footwear collection (naturally), she has an amazing collection and has every pair I have ever crushed on. Moving on to her wide leg pants and her bohemian hair, I can live in her closet only I’m a size 16 and her trousers won’t go past my ankle. On the red carpet, the side walk or working up a fashion storm, Mrs Huntoon’s style cannot be ignored. She is the fashionista you love to love and can’t afford to hate. I love that you can get inspiration from her and work her style into your closet to fit your body type. I can’t deny that I get some from from her from time to time especially when it... read more

Momspiration Pt 1: Meet The Versatile Shopper, Remi Fagboghun

I’m all for woman power, women supporting women and everything along that line. Juggling being a wife, a mother, a home maker and a career amongst other unrecognized roles is a feat that should be crowned. When you find a woman that fits into these many shoes and tops it up with being a fine ass fashionista, she is worthy of a special blog post and more. In the next few weeks, Mondays will be dedicated to fashionista moms in these series MOMSPIRATION for #momcrushmonday Remi Fagbohun is one terrific mom I have followed since my early days on Instagram. Her infectious happy spirit and easy disposition to life not to mention her fashion game drew me to her. She’s an American based personal shopper and a stylist to some of the biggest names in Nigeria. A wife, a mother, and an entrepreneur, she’s one of those women who look so good in their 40s, you start to question your existence if you’re in your 20’s and out of shape. With her love and taste for/in shoes, her high sense of style and zestful nature, she’s my no 1 feature mom for the series… You wouldn’t want to miss out on my interview with her for IN HER CLOSET. In Her Closet – Season 2, Episode 1 – Ex Beauty Queen Mrs Ifeoma Williams

It’s been 20 amazing episodes of In Her Closet and i’m thankful for every single interview. Meeting these amazing women and getting a sneak peek into their closets. It’s the start of another season and it’s going to be another round of fabulous women in every sector sharing their style tips and closet secrets. The Cerebral Lemon co, owned by Ex-beauty Queen of the 1998 Miss Lux  beauty pageant, Mrs Ifeoma Williams is a company that constantly seeks to positively influence the perceptions and opinions of African audiences by connecting them to excellent media content. I didn’t quite pay attention to the vast difference between being a stylist and an image consultant until my interview with her. I was more than honored when she granted me this interview. A trained lawyer, a mom of 2 boys, a wife and professional in her image consulting passion now turned career, Ifeoma Williams exudes style with very classy vibes. Giving credit to the Jackie Kennedy Era as her style influence, the Ex BeautyQueen shares a few things with me on this Episode of IN HER CLOSET. Enjoy!!! E-INTERVIEW WITH MRS IFEOMA WILLIAMS JAY: You are an epitome of style, what does style mean to you?   IFEOMA: Style is often misunderstood to mean strictly “dress style”. For me, Style is all encompassing and more than pure appearance. It is the conveyance of an aura of distinction that is hard to define but easy to recognize. JAY: Jackie Kennedy is your style icon, that’s style in the 50’s – 60’s, there were hats (which I’ve seen you love by the way) and bright colors, geometric designs and structures… What... read more

Let’s Play Catch Up (2) – March and April

It’s been a really busy period for me this past few weeks. But i’m slowly but surely settling in and i must say it’s really nice here so far. MET Gala 2017 : Avant-garde or Confused?

MET Gala 2017 : Avant-garde or Confused?

It’s one of the most exciting yearly events for me because it’s purely fashion oriented, it’s said to be the GRAMMY of fashion. And with a theme to guide each year, many celebrities show up prepared. Last year was themed Manus x Machina: Age of technology This year was in honor of Rei Kawakubo, the Japanese avant-garde designer of Comme des garcon. Her pieces are known to be beyond the norm leaning more towards Art, so I was curious to see who would be able to work that theme.  While a few people stuck to the theme and did so nicely, some missed the entire point, while others decided to play it safe. Here are pictures from the red carpet starting with my favorite looks from the night. And More Looks!!! And some more… This is one event I always look forward to. I have watched and read every review related to the 2017 MET gala. For the first time, I was more about the cloth designs than the shoes. Who were your favorites on the red carpet and your worst dressed?!! Peace, Love and be fashionable Xoxo?... read more

‘5 Things’ with Jim Iyke – #MondayManStyleCrush

I need all the smileys i can get to express myself in this post. I’m physically and mentally drained but in a good way. Moving houses officially has to be the hardest thing ever. Even worse when it’s inter state. So i guess what i’m saying is that I’ve just moved houses from Warri, Delta State to Port Harcourt City and the past few weeks have been work work work. It is a move I’ve anticipated for some time now so it’s been happy kind of work. I’d share my excitement with you guys much later. And that explains why i have been absent. I’m most excited for Sole Divas with this move, but let’s just wait for it and while we wait, tell a friend to tell a friend that Sole Divas is in Port Harcourt and getting ready to satisfy all their footwear needs. Anyway, after 3days of unpacking and setting up, the hubs and i went to visit our friends, the owners of Sweettooth Confectioneries at their store (You have to visit anytime you’re in PHCity). While we were chatting and having a good laugh, Jim Iyke who happened to be hubby’s friend from way back walked in. After the slaps on the back and playing catch up, during which, i just stood by smiling and eyeing his Giuseppe Zanotti Python Sneakers, the Mr introduced my friend and i. Unfortunately, i didn’t have a phone or i would have taken shots from every angle possible. I don’t know if i was star struck or shy, but whatever it was, i couldn’t seem to speak and so Teju... read more
Tuesday Shoes Day With The World’s Most Expensive Shoes

Tuesday Shoes Day With The World’s Most Expensive Shoes

Seeing the price tags of these shoes made my heart race, like really??? As always, i was surfing the internet and came across an article on Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz, remember those her sparkly bright red shoes? I wanted a pair so bad when i was growing up. I saw the price attached to them, apparently they are still available and being kept in a museum in Washington DC and it got me excited. You can DIY your own Dorothy Ruby Slippers and click your heels away. All you need are A pair of plain pumps, preferably patent leather. Adhesive glue or Spray Glue applicator Red glitter After much nosing around, i came up with the 10 most expensive shoes in the world. It’s interesting to see that the famous footwear designer, Stuart Weitzman has 8 of these shoes to his credit. Let’s countdown. 10. Stuart Weitzman’s Diamond Dream Stilettos: This pair cost a whooping $500, 000 and was designed alongside a famous jeweler Kwait with about 1420 shiny diamonds sitting on them.   9. Original Ruby Slippers from “The Wizard of Oz”: These are the original pair worn by Dorothy in the movie and are valued at $612, 000. 8. Stuart Weitzman’s “Retro Rose” Pumps: As ordinary as they look, this cost $1,000,000, yep One million US Dollars. Adorned with 1,800 diamonds, it’s also from the creative duo of Weitzman and Kwait, the jeweler.   7. Stuart Weitzman’s “Marilyn Monroe” Shoes: I told you Weitzman is on a roll with this post. This pair also costs $1,000,000. Marilyn Monroe didn’t own them or ever wear them but they depict her elegant life and so... read more
