From the mid day Oasis on 96.9 Cool FM to the Drive time show on Beats 99.9 FM, Radio host, Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi has made her mark in the broadcasting industry. The CEO of Speakerboxx productions, she’s a media consultant and Event MC among other things media related.
GBEMI OLATERU OLAGBEGI
Apart from her interactive and interesting radio moments, I was drawn to the fact that she is a shoe lover. I remember driving home from work and listening to her show, she would almost always make a reference to shoes. Following her on social media made her love for shoes even more obvious.
It was hardly any surprise when I heard that she had launched her own line of shoes, the “GBEMISOKE SHOES”. I was eager to have her featured as soon as this idea dropped and I’m so glad she obliged me the feature.
A few Emails later and quite a number of subtle reminders, I got her responses from the E-Interview questions. Let’s get straight to it.
E-Interview With On Air Personality, Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi
JAY: I have known you virtually for about 7 years and to say you are a shoe lover would be an understatement, what is it about shoes that get you excited?
GBEMI: I can’t explain it, I’ve always loved shoes . I was a very particular child and my mom would get tired when she would take me shopping . When I was old enough to shop on my own, I would spend hours looking for beautiful shoes.
JAY: The Gbemisoke Mules were an instant hit, almost more in demand than the pumps and we’re also expecting the mid heel sandals, what inspired the Gbemisoke line of shoes?
GBEMI: The main inspiration was my constant struggle – looking for nice ,affordable shoes in my size . I decided to start making my own shoes and then solve the problem for women like me. Funny enough , the pumps sold quicker than the mules .
WEARING THE GBEMISOKE PUMPS
JAY: Approximately how many pair of shoes do you have?
GBEMI: Not a lot. Approximately 100 pairs . I constantly buy shoes and give away as well. So the number always changes .
GOALS…THE DAY I HIT A 100 PAIRS
JAY: Luxury or High street?
GBEMI: A mix of both .
JAY: Your favorite footwear designers would be?
GBEMI: Luxury – Giuseppe Zanotti . High Street- Steve Madden
STEVE MADDEN SANDALS
JAY: What shoe style is most prominent in your closet ?
GBEMI: I have mostly pumps and sandals .
THE MUSIC MEETS RUNWAY
JAY: What is that one shoe style you think every woman must own??
GBEMI: Pumps. They’re classics
PUMPS ARE INDEED A CLASSIC STYLE
JAY: What’s your pet peeve with women and the way they wear their shoes? For me it annoys me when the toes hang out excessively in open toe shoes.
GBEMI: That annoys me too. Women who also force their feet into shoes that are way too small- huge pet peeve.
JAY: Any embarrassing shoe moments you’d like to share???
GBEMI: So many!! I remember wearing these really nice 6inch stilletos to an event . It rained earlier and the floor was very slippery. I didn’t fall but I had to walk really really slowly and people were staring at me . Perhaps hoping that i would fall! Shame to bad people.
HAHAHAHA…….BAD BELLE PEOPLE
JAY: Where do you see Gbemisoke shoes in the next 10years?
GBEMI: I see Gbemisoke spreading her tentacles world wide . There are women with big feet all over the world and not a lot of brands cater to us.
THE VERY FIRST GBEMISOKE FLATS
JAY: The mules are a limited edition and I know are still very high in demand, can we expect them back in the nearest future?
GBEMI: Because of the demand , we will reproduce soon .
THE MULES WILL MAKE A COMEBACK
JAY: What’s the most number of shoe pairs you’ve indulged in on one shopping experience?
GBEMI: I remember buying about 13 pairs of shoes . I went to LA for a conference and I discovered this place where shoes were reasonably priced and I found my size . I kept swiping my card until I came to my senses ! Lol!
FOR THE LOVE OF BEAUTIFUL SHOES…
JAY: A piece of advice for the ladies when buying shoes.
GBEMI: Buy shoes that you can walk in. Don’t be afraid to buy a color you have never bought before , even if you have nothing in your closet to match them.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO TRY COLORS
There you have it from the “baddest” OAP, so for those who are clamoring for the Gbemisoke Mules, this is confirmation that they’d be back in stock soon. Till the next episode…
Peace, Love And More Gbemisoke Shoes
