“Go Ai, go Ai, go Ai” I screamed at the top of my voice, attempting to compete with the booming sounds from the Bangs and Olusfen speakers in my living room.

Wizkid’s Daddy Yo was playing and Aishat was giving us out of this world steps. It felt like our University years again. How I missed those days so much, when all we worried about were boys, making good grades and wearing the best clothes. *sigh*

Tonight it was all about Aishat, her journey to being Mrs Timehin Bob Egbe was in full gear and we were going all into it. The family introduction had taken place about 2months after the proposal.

We had all gone to the north, to Kano, Aishat’s home town. You would never believe the kind of wealth she was born into. Her father’s mansion was like a city on its own. I mean it was big enough to comfortably accommodate all of us that went with her. It was so much fun and we stayed a few extra days to see enough of the city before we headed back to Lagos.

Now this was part two, her bridal shower, almost another 2months after the introduction. The traditional marriage was coming up in the next 2 weeks and the pre-wedding dinner and finally the white wedding the week after. The running around had been such a task. With Ivie nursing Osagie, I was left to do most of the work. She came back to Nigeria as soon as he clocked 3months, so she had missed the introduction.

We had been planning the bridal shower for quite some time and it wasn’t planned to be a surprise party, Aishat was in the know and had come up with the theme of a costume party. We were all supposed to be as creative as we could and it turned out beautifully.

With exactly 20 guests, all female, there was a wide variety of costumes from female cop to red riding hood and even a ghost. Ivie was dressed as wonder woman, Aishat came in as an Egyptian princess, I was every inch the French maid and even my sis in law wasn’t left out as Cat woman.

beautiful

My mum stopped by dressed in all white and said something about her being snow white without the seven dwarfs. I just can’t deal with that woman.

It was a fun night with lots of food and drinks, party games and so much talk. It happened to fall on Aishat’s 30th birthday so it was a really dirty 30 bridal shower. We even had in male strippers come in for a few minutes. It was the most fun I had had in a long long time.

The guys had their bachelor’s party that same night, so no one was getting in the others’ way.

At 3am, we were all tired out and most of the girls had left. Hakeem, Eddy and Timehin came in at about that time and we all retired to bed after exchanging details of our shenanigans.

I woke up later that morning with a banging headache.

“Hakeem?” I nudged him gently.

He turned and struggled to open his eyes, I bet he was hung over from earlier.

“My head, it hurts” I said, holding my forehead in my palm. That was all I needed to say for him to spring up.

Since the test results and confirmation that I was carrying our babies, yes, all three of them. Hakeem and I were expecting triplets. The pregnancy test result had come out positive and we had done a scan a few weeks after which showed I was carrying not one but 3 babies in my womb. We cried and laughed and hugged and kissed and showed every form of emotion, I can swear I saw the nurse shed a tear.

Hakeem doted on me, as a matter of fact, everyone doted on me and if not because I was strong headed, they’d have had me locked up in a hospital somewhere till the day of delivery. Except for a few days of weakness here and there, I was generally energetic and felt none of the morning sickness everyone complained about. I had secretly gone back to re test on two occasions just to be sure it was for real. God indeed made all things beautiful in His time.

I already had a ticket to Hawaii courtesy of Hakeem as soon as Aishat’s wedding was over. He insisted that I take 2weeks off to rest. Ivie and I had it all planned out, she would go with me and take Osagie along but stay for just a week so she could get back to Osas in time for her end of term exams. Things weren’t still going so well in her marriage. Eddy was still cheating on her and she was at the point of emotional disconnect. She wasn’t even confronting him again, she just wanted her space and some peace.

She seemed to have matured a lot since she got back from the U.S, gone was the soft, naïve Ivie. She had been replaced with a more no sentiments attached woman. It seemed she had built a wall around her but it didn’t take away the beautiful soul that has been my friend over the years.

I couldn’t begin to imagine what she was going through. She was fortunate to have a nanny who could handle her kids to near perfection, which gave her enough time to put into her work, personal and social life.

Aishat was estatic and we all were for her. Timehin was the answer to all her prayers and God sent to wipe away the tears of the past ordeal. She had managed to mend fences with her mom after she poured out her heart expressing all the hurt she experienced growing up. It wasn’t a turn around relationship, but both parties knew what had gone wrong and were making attempts to make things better. She had finally been able to forgive everyone and herself.

beautiful

Her father was sparing no cost to ensure she had the best wedding ever. He had pumped some more money in her business and left her a few inheritances. Timehin’s family, an upscale but very quiet and pleasant one had taken to Aishat easily. They had also accepted Khameel without any fuss, at least not known to us.

“Do you want me to call the doctor?” Hakeem was aready on his feet. I smiled.

“Noooooo, I just need something hot to drink, please can you make me some tea? I replied trying to sit up.

“Just be using my mumu button as you like o, na you sha” He said, pulling the duvet off me as he went downstairs to make me some hot chocolate.

“I love you so much more” I said after him.

Life was beautiful again, I was pregnant finally, I would carry my own babies, 3 of them all at once. Hakeem had redone the nursery, there had been a lot of reconstruction going on as he was now merging two rooms together to create more space.

There was a delivery of one package or the other at least every forth night, sometimes weekly. If he wasn’t buying new cribs, he was buying new toys or a new set of clothes. It all made my heart smile. At some point, I had to insist on seeing what his bank balance was and the status of his finances. But If I didn’t trust Hakeem for anything, I trusted his financial responsibility. I was indeed blessed.

Lady cobbler was going to be officially launched as soon as I got back from Hawaii. We had decided to start out with shoe repairs and cleaning services. We were at the phase of employing professionals and training some fresh men. The luxury retail part will come up a lot later as we had spent so much in the past few months.

I had officially resigned my job and my send off party was a very emotional one. I struggled with the thought of coping without my day job, but Hakeem would have it no other way. I had worked there for 8years and leaving was one of the hardest things I had to do. I would miss my colleagues, the deadlines and the adrenaline rush that came with them. It was my sacrifice to my family, a worthy one.

beautiful

As I walked out of the building after the party, I took a deep breath, looked down at my 5month old baby bump and looked back up at the office building. There was no comparison and with that, I got into my car and drove all the way home.

Superb blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused .. Any suggestions? Thank you!
